Optical
Microscopy Laboratories
Binns-Merrill Hall,
Room 244
The
optical microscopy facility is used both to teach
microscopy and fractography and to support undergraduate
and graduate research. For teaching, all eighteen
stations are equipped with both a polarizing and
a stereographic microscope; a digital projector displays
prepared slides and images and "live"
images from optical microscopes. For research,
a color digital camera produces high-resolution
images, and software is available for processing
these images and for automatic or semi-automatic
image analysis.
For more information about the Optical Microscopy Facility and other optical microscopes in the School (research, analytical services, short courses, student training, and equipment maintenance) contact Dr. James R. Varner.
